Mister
Goodmath:
An additional feature of the program is, "Mister Goodmath on the Internet". Students may access the problem of the week via the World Wide Web. By visiting http://mistergoodmath.org, students may enter the "Challenge" problem of the week by simply clicking on the "Cool" button. This allows them to solve any number of problems and e-mail solutions to Mister Goodmath via the internet.

"Mom
and Dad's Corner" is a way to get
valuable information or downloadable material to parents. This
page was added at the request of a number of moms and dads who
expressed an interest in
being able to help their children with math while at home.
Valuable web
links and requested PDF files are shared. Click on "Mom and Dad's
Corner."
As the school's Mathematics Resource Teacher, Mister Goodmath (a.k.a., Mike Rooney) visits each of Welleby's 40 classes at least once a week. He presents lessons that closely parallel objectives stressed by Florida's Sunshine State Mathematics Standards and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Standards. All lessons are designed to enhance and motivate students. In a particularly innovative use of technology, Mister Goodmath videotapes himself working with students who are experiencing difficulty with math. These videotapes, along with mathematics manipulatives, are made available to the child's parents and teacher through the school's media center checkout system. Mister Goodmath also uses a Promethean Active Board to enhance concretely driven lessons using virtual manipulatives as well as a variety of mathematics software applications.
Another innovative feature of the program is peer tutoring offered by a cadre of high achieving fifth graders (a.k.a. Goodmath Kids), who are available to help students at the request of their teachers. In another type of tutoring, the Goodmath Kids also appear with Mister Goodmath in videotaped Goodmath programs broadcast to classrooms on request. These programs feature problem solving and computational strategies not found in students' texts.
An important role of the Mister Goodmath program is helping teachers become more comfortable with the subject and improving their competency in mathematics instructional techniques. For example, to enable teachers to tailor math lessons for students of all learning styles, the program introduces them to a variety of computational systems and problem solving strategies not readily found in textbooks.
The philosophy behind the Mister Goodmath program is that students can become most proficient in mathematics when they learn critical thinking and problem solving skills. Accordingly, the program teaches specific problem solving strategies and attempts to compensate for the limitations of basal textbooks while accommodating differences in student learning styles.
We would welcome your visit so you can experience the excitement as the Media TV Production Staff announces - "AND HERE'S MISTER GOODMATH!" Start your visit on the World Wide Web or by contacting Welleby on the land-line at (754) 322-8850.
