Mister Goodmath: Problem of the week

The Challenge:

Our dog, Casey Jones, just had a litter of puppies. Shawn, Dave, and I need to construct a pen in the back yard so the youngsters can romp in the grass. We have exactly 36 feet of fencing. What is the largest rectangular pen (in terms of area) that we can build with the materials we have on hand?

The Solution:

Should you decide to ponder the problem and accept the challenge, communicate your solution to Mister Goodmath at "rooneym@mistergoodmath.org". Great solutions will be featured on T.V. during WAVE morning announcements.

The Hint:

Use graph paper and draw all the rectangles you can with a perimeter of 36 units of measure.
