The Guests:Here's
the third problem submitted by Mr. Brian Segool's
Fifth Grade Math Class at Rock Springs Elementary School
in
Lawrenceville, Georgia. The class is full of Math
Superstars who frequently solve Goodmath Challenges.
Thanks
for
the Guest Problem, kids. As usual, Mister Goodmath
thinks you're the best!!!
The Challenge:
The
world of Coca-Cola is a museum in Atlanta, Gorgia. At this museum,
visitors can learn about the history of Coca-Cola as well as sample products
Coke products from around the world. Click on the picture to visit
the site.
Outside the museum is a large, round Coca-Cola emblem
surrounded by a framework imitating the Earth's lines of latitude and longitude.
The inner emblem rotates in a clockwise direction at the speed of one rotation
per minute. The outer framework rotates in a counter-clockwise direction
at the speed of one-and-one-half rotation per minute.
The museum is open from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Monday through Saturday. If the display is turned on each day at the time the museum is opened and turned off when it closes, how many times will the Coke emblem rotate? In the same amount of time, how many times will the framework rotate? What would the total number of all rotations be for the six day week?
