®

The following problem was submitted by Mr. Brian Segool's Fifth Grade Math Class at Rock Springs Elementary School in Lawrenceville, Georgia.  The class is full of Math Superstars like  Carlie A.K.A. Snarley, Ben  A.K.A. Gentle Ben, Jamie, Amanda, Kiki, Carrie, Elizabeth, Zack, Thomas, Jon, Tyler, Anna, and Greg who have solved eleven of Mister Goodmath's Challenges.  Thanks for the Guest Problem Kids.  Mister Goodmath thinks you're the best!!!

The Challenge:
A trucker hauls famous Georgia Peaches.  The fuel tank on his truck holds 150 gallons of diesel fuel.  Georgia's fuel prices are the lowest in the nation, so the trucker spends about $1.08 per gallon of diesel fuel.

A.    How much would it cost to fill the tank?

B.    The owner/driver has decided to add saddle tanks (two additional tanks) to his truck to reduce the number of fuel stops on long hauls.  Each holds 75 gallons of fuel.  If his truck was empty, how much money would the trucker need to fill all of the tanks?

The Solution:
