Mister Goodmath: Problem of the week®

The Author: Here's another Challenge from Welleby teacher, Sandy Pierce. It should help you understand that in addition to being bad for your health, smoking cigarettes will hit you right in the pocketbook. Thanks again, Mrs. Pierce.

You young guys and girls, might not know that more people die every year from smoking-related diseases than from AIDS, alcohol, car accidents, fires, drugs, murders, and suicides COMBINED. Join Mister Goodmath and the American Cancer Society and take the Smoke-Free Life Pledge by clicking anywhere on the Smokeout Pledge card to the left.

The Challenge:Cigarettes cost about $2.00 a pack. If a smoker smokes 5 packs a week, how much does he/she spend in one week? In one month? In a year?

List Three things a child could buy with the money spent in a year.

List Three things a teenager could buy with the money spent in a year.
