The Challenge:
This image was taken on July 5 by the IMP camera. The flat, table-like rock appears to be covered with dust. The rock also displays many interesting linear features. The large rocks in the background are intriguing because of their impressive textures.
Pathfinder flew 119 million miles in seven months to reach the Red Planet. In order to reach the velocity needed to to make this incredible journey in a relatively short period of time, it was necessary for the delivery vehicle to "sling shot" around the earth using the palnet's gravity to propel it to an unbelievable speed. Should you decide to accept this challenge, calculate miles traveled per month, day, hour, minute, and second.
The Solution:
Should you decide to ponder the problem and accept
the challenge, communicate your solution to Mister Goodmath at "rooneym@mistergoodmath.org".
Great solutions submitted by Welleby students, will be featured on T.V.
during WAVE morning announcements. If you are responding
from somewhere else on the World Wide Web, a response to your solution
is promised.
The Hint:
"Speed" equals "Distance" divided by "Time".
